Collection relates to the First World War service of 3068 Lance Corporal Albert Easy and 3223 Private John William Stead, 12th Company Field Engineers, 1916, Australia, Egypt, France and Belgium.
Collection consists of one original pocket diary and a digital transcription of the diary. The digital transcript was produced by Corporal Easy's grand-daughter, Belinda Jennifer Poot (nee Easy) in November 2010. A hard copy of the diary transcription has been printed for access purposes.
The original diary was kept by Private John William Stead; a note in the diary explains that on 5 May 1916 Stead gave the diary to Easy. The diary details their movements, daily life, mail problems, casualties, entry dated 12 August 1916 mentions the death of his friend 3179 Sapper Charles ‘Charlie’ Ludwig Pauls, entry dated 19 November mentions the death of 3376 Sapper Harold Walter Marsh, drills and guard duty, being under fire, and the weather.
