Description
Collection relating to the Second World War experience of Miss Mamie Reid, civilian, Sydney, 1945.
Collection consists of one letter and envelope from Mamie Reid to Miss Donaldson, dated 2 March 1945, and one photograph. Mamie Reid was a pianist and performer with the music group “Mamie Reid’s Dancing Keys”. She and several other performers did a five week tour to entertain Allied troops in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands in early 1945. In her letter to Miss Donaldson, Mamie Reid recounts an encounter with Miss Donaldson’s brother, NX125637 Private Andrew Norman Donaldson. The photograph depicts Private Donaldson in 1942.
