Group portrait of the 34th Infantry Brigade Rugby Team in the Meiji Stadium, Japan. Team captain NX16195 Sergeant (Sgt) Joseph Bede Patrick O'Sullivan in middle row, far right. Sgt O'Sullivan from Berrima, NSW, enlisted in May 1940 aged 22. He was to spend the next 32 years in the army, seeing service with the 2/13th Battalion during the Second World War in North Africa, New Guinea and Borneo. He served with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan (BCOF) and later in Korea and Malaya. In 1962 he was made an MBE; he retired as a Warrant Officer Class 1 in 1972.
