Description
Luger P08 semi-automatic pistol. The action is marked, 'ERFURT' and the receiver with, '1918' and the serial number. The grips are checkered wood and it is complete with a magazine.
History / Summary
This captured German Luger pistol related to the service of 5563 Private Samuel Walter Carver, 27 Battalion, Australian Imperial Force (AIF). Carver was born in Adelaide and he joined the AIF on 30 March 1916 with his next of kin recorded as his mother Mrs Josephine Carver of Muloowurtie, South Australia. He embarked for overseas service onboard HMAT A68 Anchises on 28 August 1916 and he returned to Australia on 26 July 1919. He died on 6 August 1967 and he is commemorated at the South Australian garden of Remembrance.
