Sydney NSW. RAN and Army personnel guarding German soldiers and sailors captured by the AN&MEF in German New Guinea. On 11 September 1914 on Bita Paka road, Kabakaul, New Britain, Sergeant Mauderer, front row left with his arm in a sling, was being treated by Captain (Capt) Brian Colden Antill Pockley, Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC), Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) for his injury. During treatment the latter was mortally wounded by German rifle fire, becoming the first Australian officer killed in the war. See H19316
