"Prewar detatchment of 10 Sqn at Pembroke Dock (end 1939) for purpose of conversion to Sunderlands & ferrying of first 3 aircraft to Australia - abandoned due to onset of war". Seven officiers flew to England in "C" Class flying boats in July 1939. These officers are identified in the first row, left to right: Ivan Stanley Podger; William Norman Gibson; Charles William Pearce; Leon Victor Lachal; William Henry Garing and; Julius Allan Cohan (later known as Richard Kinglsand).This is one of a collection relating to the service of O354 (154) Squadron Leader (later Group Captain) Ivan Stanley Podger. Enlisting with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in 1937, he went on to serve with the RAAF in the Second World War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on 20 November 1943 for displaying outstanding leadership whilst flying. Podger also served as one of the Commanding Officers of 91 Composite Wing, RAAF, in the Korean War.
