Studio portrait of 6537 Private (Pte) William Stanley Hewett, 13th Battalion. A locomotive fireman from Auburn, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Hewett embarked with the 21st Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Ceramic on 7 October 1916. Later promoted to Corporal, he was killed in action on 6 August 1918, aged 27, and was buried in the Adelaide Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, France. Pte Hewett is wearing a coat (possibly borrowed) with four years of service stripes; he was in his third year of service when he was killed. See also P08624.257
