Studio portrait of 1576 Private (Pte) John Henry Roy, 28th Battalion. A clerk from Fremantle, WA prior to enlistment, Pte Roy embarked with the 1st Reinforcements from Fremantle on HMAT Geelong on 5 June 1915. Later promoted to Lance Corporal, he was wounded in action at Gallipoli and was evacuated. On 28 November 1915 he died of his wounds whilst on board HS Maheno.
