Boy Soldiers and Australian Advisers 164 Battalion
Description
At Vung Tau airfield, 15630 Warrant Officer 2 (WO2) Kevin Thomas ('Chico') Miller, Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV), sits in a jeep, while WO2 Warren Frederick Lewis, AATTV, stands on the right. In the centre is Cambodian Private Yon Monn and a rifleman nicknamed 'Heckyl', both boy soldiers from 164 Battalion Chasseur of the newly formed Forces Armées Nationale Khmer (FANK). AATTV was the last Australian unit to leave Vietnam, at the end of 1972. In its final months in the country, its advisers helped to train Cambodian soldiers of FANK for the fight against the Khmer Rouge, as well as continuing to train South Vietnamese soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN).
