Letter relating to death of Rockliff, Ambrose Walter
Description
Original letter, written in France on 2 November 1918, by 3146 Private (Pte) George Elliott of 24th Machine Gun Company, 4th Machine Gun Battalion. The five page letter is handwritten, and addressed to 'Mrs O.W Rockliff', the sister of 687 Private (Pte) Ambrose Walter Rockliff who was killed in action on 18 September 1918. Pte Elliott tells Mrs Rockliff that he was '...a company soldier friend to your late brother, having known him since he joined our Machine Gun Company...', and recounts the events that led to the death of Pte Rockcliff in France.
