Pre-war portrait of George Samuel Feist in cricket gear. A wheat agent from Blackboy Hill, WA prior to enlistment and originally from Sussex, England where he had been a member of the Metropolitan Police, 911 Private Feist embarked with the with H Company, 12th Battalion from Fremantle on HMAT Medic on 2 November 1914. After taking part in the Gallipoli landing on 25th April 1915, he was wounded in action and evacuated. Returning to Gallipoli, he was wounded for a second time and promoted to Corporal. Later promoted to Sergeant, he transferred to the 52nd Battalion with the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 and was appointed as Company Sergeant Major. He was killed in action at Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916, aged 28 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
