Studio portrait of 1594 Private (Pte) Edwyn Gerald Munce, 9th Battalion. An engineer from Rosalie, Queensland prior to enlistment, Pte Munce embarked with the 3rd Reinforcements from Brisbane on HMAT Seang Choon on 13 February 1915. After serving at Gallipoli he was promoted to Corporal in France where he was wounded in action and awarded the Military Medal. Later promoted to Lance Sergeant, he was killed in action on 23 July 1916 at Pozieres, aged 24, and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
