Informal portrait of NX45322 Private (Pte) James Reginald Balcombe (left), 2/20 Battalion, and an unidentified man. Pte Balcombe enlisted on 24 June 1940 and was serving in Malaya when, on 9 February 1942, aged 22, he was killed in action. Having no known grave, he is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
