Studio portrait of 59 Corporal (Cpl) Jonathon Duncan McHateley, 13th Light Horse Regiment. Also known as MacHateley and Hateley, Cpl McHateley was a labourer from Beulah, Vic prior to enlistment and embarked with B Squadron from Melbourne on HMAT Persic on 28 May 1915. After serving at Gallipoli, he transferred to the 1st Light Horse Regiment and, on 21 March 1917, aged 28, he was killed in action and was buried in the Queant Road British Cemetery, Buissy, France.
