Studio portrait of 19667 Petty Officer Leonard Walter Howroyd, HMAS Kuttabul, of Richmond, Victoria. A labourer prior to enlisting in the Royal Australia Navy on 2 December 1932, he was killed, aged 26, on 1 June 1942 when a Japanese midget submarine invaded Sydney Harbour, and sank the depot ship Kuttabul. He is buried in the Rookwood Necropolis, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
