One of a series of photographs taken by Gary Ramage while embedded with 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) in Afghanistan from August to September 2011. 2RAR was deployed to Afghanistan in June 2011 as part of the wider ADF 3rd Mentoring Task Force (MTF-3). Assuming responsibility for mentoring operations in Uruzgan Province, MTF-3 worked closely with the Afghan National Army (ANA) and was instrumental in assisting the ANA to make significant improvements to their capability in conducting operations in the area. Ramage joined Combat Team Charlie at Forward Operating Base Tinsley, a former US Special Forces fire base, in the Charchino district of Northwestern Uruzgan Province. Tinsley served as the patrol base for the ANA's 1 Tolay, 6th Kandak (4th Brigade).
