Pre-war studio portrait of George Leslie (Les) Rehn, also known as Leonard Ashby Barnett, from Nhill, Victoria who enlisted in 1941 aged 37. He served as NX48495 Private (Pte) Rehn with 2/3 Reserve Motor Transport Company, Australian Army Service Corps. Taken prisoner by the Japanese he died on 14 September 1944, when the Japanese transport Rakuyo Maru in convoy from Singapore to Japan, was torpedoed and sunk in the South China Sea. His younger brother SX22740 Pte Hurtle William Rehn survived the war. (see P10703.002)
