Outdoor portrait of NX36604 Private (Pte) Colin Cornwall Jones. A school teacher from Lockhart, NSW, Pte Jones enlisted with 2/30 Battalion on 27 June 1940. On 25 March 1941 he transferred to Headquarters 27th Infantry Brigade and embarked from Fremantle for Singapore on 7 August 1941. Pte Jones was taken as prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese in Malaya 1942 and in April 1943 he was assigned to Japanese prisoner group 'F Force' to work on the Burma Thailand Railway. Pte Jones died as a result of beri-beri while a POW in Burma on 26 October 1943. He was 26 years old.
