Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of 2633 Private Lewis Claude Quinn, 37 Battalion. Collection consists of a diary and a fragment of a photographic postcard. The diary has been damaged, possibly by a shell fragment. Diary entries are mostly confined to thoughts when Pte Quinn is in the front line trenches: "he is giving us this time in God bless him"; "In front line Just survived a gas attack by the goat over the way we expect them over tonight they are the Prussians in front of us Oh well let them all come I hope they bring their wives with them. Morning, he put it off we had a quiet night no casualties all is OK." Included are epitaphs for some of his comrades.
