Studio portrait of 69 Private (Pte) Clarence Lesley Donald Hamilton, a 20 year old station hand from Dalby, Queensland (on left) and 3247 Pte George Whyte, a 31 year old shunter from Ipswich, Queensland. Pte Hamilton left Australia with the 14th Australian Light Horse Regiment in May 1916. The Regiment was disbanded in September and its members transfered to various battalions, Pte Hamilton being posted to D Company 26th Battalion. D Company. He had reached the rank of sergeant before a gunshot wound to the left arm saw him discharged and returned to Australia in April 1918. Pte Whyte served with the 25th Battalion until it was disbanded in October 1918, at which point he was transferred to the 26th. He died of pneumonia three weeks later.
