Studio portrait of NX40370 Private (Pte) Henry George Wells, 2/18th Battalion, NX20039 Pte Sydney (Sid) Williams, 2/20th Battalion, and NX40371 Pte Thomas William Hatch, 2/18th Battalion. The 2/18th Battalion and the 2/20th Battalion both trained at Ingleburn, NSW, from September-October 1940. Pte Wells was one of over 2,000 Allied prisoners of war (POW) held in the Sandakan POW camp in north Borneo and died as a prisoner of the Japanese on 4 March 1945, aged 33 years. Pte Williams was held in a POW camp in Thailand for over three years and was discharged from the Australian Imperial Forces on 22 January 1946. Pte Hatch was held in a Japanese POW camp in Malaya and was discharged from the Australian Imperial Forces on 3 January 1946. From an album compiled by NX40763 Pte William George Gillespie.
