Outdoors informal portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Bertie Adolphous James Rouse, taken at Flinders Naval Depot, Victoria. Lt Rouse served in the Royal Navy between 1899 and 1919 and in the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War. He served as a seaman aboard, HMS Gibraltar during the Boer War and as Gunnery Officer aboard HMS Garry between 1915 and 1918. He later served as Rifle Range Instructor at Flinders Naval Depot (FND), Victoria, between 1939 to 1944, and completed his war service as Armaments Store Accounting Officer at HMAS Melville, the RAN Base at Darwin in 1945. He retired in 1950 with the rank of Lieutenant.
