The wounded soldier
Description
Marie Miethke was 17 years old when she painted "The wounded soldier." Possibly depicting a scene from the battle of Gallipoli, the work provides a significant insight into the impact the war had on the Australian home front. Both of Marie's parents were German immigrants who settled in Southport, Queensland. Her father often suffered ridicule and discrimination due to his German background. The production this painting demonstrates the significant impact the war had on Marie's identity and daily life.
