Description
Informal family group portrait including VX 37405 Private (Pte) (later Lance Corporal) William (Bill) Robert Pollard, 2/22 Battalion. The family group contains, from left, John William Turner, Pte Pollard, Roger Denzel Turner and Josephine Turner. Pte Pollard enlisted in July 1940, aged 38 at Royal Park, Melbourne. The 2/22nd was one of the units which formed Lark Force, charged with the defence of airfields around Rabaul, New Britain. Pte Pollard was presumed killed by the Japanese in what became known as the Tol plantation massacre, near Rabaul on 4th April 1942.
