Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX103954 (N36334) Lieutenant Paul Acton Lloyd, 2/9 Australian Infantry Battalion, Second Australian Imperial Force, Australia and New Guinea, 1942 – 1943.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Contains one Christmas note, two Christmas letters [with associated envelopes] and a thank you note relating to Lieutenant Lloyd, dated 1942 to 1943.

1x Christmas note, with tassel, written by Lieutenant Lloyd to his sister, Miss Mildread ‘Miltie’ Lloyd, [c December, 1942].

1x Christmas letter written by Lieutenant Lloyd to Miss Lloyd, [c December 1942]. In this letter he writes about his efforts to buy presents on the ‘Island’ (thought to be New Guinea), and sends his holiday wishes.

1x Christmas letter written by Miss Lloyd to Lieutenant Lloyd, Bellevue Hill, New South Wales, 25 December 1942 (returned to sender on 25 March 1943). In this letter she writes about her recent activities, including Christmas and future celebrations. Within this letter she has also drawn a scene of a house in charcoal pencil.

1x Printed thank you note, written by ‘Mr and Mrs Edward A Lloyd and Family’, Bellevue Hill, New South Wales, dated March 1943. This printed letter sends gratitude for sympathies given in regards to the recent death of their son, Lieutenant Lloyd.

History / Summary

Lieutenant Paul Acton Lloyd enlisted with the Second Australian Imperial Force in Sydney, New South Wales on 19 July 1942, after previously serving with the Militia. He served with the 2/9 Australian Infantry Battalion in Sanananda, New Guinea. Lieutenant Lloyd was killed in action on 12 January 1943. He is buried at Port Moresby War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea.
