The War
Description
Etching of a figure with arms wrapping around.
This work was produced following a trip Nguyen Van Hien made to Friendship Village in Hanoi, Vietnam, to visit the victims still suffering from exposure to Agent Orange. Agent Orange was a toxic chemical used by the Allied forces as a defoliant during the Vietnam War. It both killed and maimed hundreds of thousands civilians and service personnel, as well as led to over 500,000 children being born with birth defects.
The trip was organised by the non-for-profit Australian organisation Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA) and the Memorial acquired the work through a charity auction 'Beautiful Art for Innocent Children' in Sydney, 2012.
