Light horse miniature slouch hat fundraising badge
Description
Miniature slouch hat badge consisting of a disc of light brown felt to which has been sewn a triple-looped length of felt (serving as the crown), which then extends beyond the hat to form a suspender. Around this is sewn red, white and blue cotton braiding hatband, each colour a separate length sewn together to form a band. A number of black bird feathers are inserted into this patriotic headband, now mostly missing their vanes.
History / Summary
Specific history unknown. Although rather crude, this hat was most likely sold as a hand-made fundraising badge during the First World War. The presence of the feathers suggests a Light Horse association.
