Studio portrait of NX111800 Private (Pte) Charles David Herne, 2/12th Battalion from Lewisham, NSW. A 21 year old window dresser prior to enlisting on 22 August 1941, he embarked for overseas on 24 November 1942. While serving in Papua, he was killed in action on 20 January 1943 and originally buried on the Buna - Sananda Road but was then reinterred in the Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea.
