Chief Petty Officer Madge attends the HMAS Perth Christmas "funny party" in costume. 19839 Chief Engine Room Artificer John James Madge, RAN, of Sydney, NSW, enlisted in the RAN on 7 August 1933, and was killed in action on 1 March 1942 when HMAS Perth was sunk by Japanese destroyers in the Sunda Strait. This image is from a collection relating to the service of 22124 Shipwright 3rd Class Ernest Frederick King, RAN, who died on 29 June 1943 in Burma as a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese following the sinking of HMAS Perth.
