Description
Studio portrait of 993 Private (Pte) William Wallace (Bill) Bacon, 13th Australian Light Horse Regiment. A drover from Footscray, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte Bacon embarked with the 4th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Hororata on 27 September 1915. Later transferring to the 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column and then to the 22nd Field Artillery Brigade (FAB), he was mustered with the rank of Gunner and was wounded in action. Later transferring to 4th FAB, he was killed in action on 31 July 1917 and was buried in the Dickebusch New Military Cemetery, Belgium.
