Description
Studio portrait of 4132 Private (Pte) Reginald Albert Victor Gundry, 27th Battalion. A baker from Mile End, SA prior to enlistment, Pte Gundry embarked with the 19th Reinforcements from Adelaide on RMS Mongolia on 9 March 1916. Later transferring to the 50th Battalion he was awarded the Military Medal, the citation reads in part "For conspicuous courage during operations at Villers-Bretonneux...volunteers were called for...and without hesitation went out under heavy machine gun fire and dressed wounded and continued dressing and carrying wounded all that day and night and also the following day." On 18 August 1918, he was killed in action and, having no known grave, is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
