Jungle green fatigue jacket : Captain A M Pittendreigh, Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps
RAANC jungle green cotton fatigue jacket. The jacket has a back and front yoke and long sleeves with button and press-stud cuffs. There are two pleated breast patch pockets, with pointed flaps fastened by a press-stud at each corner. Closure is by six green plastic buttons. Vertically written below the row of buttons in faded black ink is 'PITTENDREIGH'. The back is shaped with a single vent from centre back waist and two waist belt loops are present with a self fabric belt which threads through a missing buckle. Written on the belt in black ink is, 'PITTENDREIGH'. Epaulettes are fastened by green plastic buttons, but have no insignia. A white cotton label inside the collar reads is printed in black ink with, 'ITTEND 22 / ITTENREIG / ITTENDRIG' and is affixed with a pink label, 'ZB6', while another label beside it has spaces for 'REGIMENTAL No.' and 'NAME'. These have been filled in with black ink 'F1477' and 'PETENDREIGH '. Below is the correct spelling in black ink, 'PITTENDREIGH'.
Working uniform worn by F1477 Captain Amy Margot Pittendreigh, Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps (RAANC) during her Vietnam War service. Pittendreigh, Lieutenant Margaret Fay Hopcraft, Lieutenant Colleen Mealy and Lieutenant Terri Roche made up the first group of Australian army nurses to arrive in Vietnam in May 1967. She served with 8th Field Ambulance from 6 May 1967 to 31 March 1968 and 1st Australian Field Hospital from 1 April 1968 to 5 June 1968. She was awarded the Royal Red Cross, Second Class on 1 January 1969.
