Description

Graphic poster layered with text and images. The composition depicts four silhouette aircrafts releasing orange spray from the engine jets. The text reads 'Yesterday crimes' 'Today outcome?' 'Agent Orange' 'Monsanto' and 'GMO'.

This political poster was created for an exhibition held by the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA) in Australia. It condemns the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War which was a harmful herbicide used by the U.S. military as part of its chemical warfare program. The chemical both killed and maimed thousands of people, and continues to affect subsequent generations who are still being born with birth defects.
The poster points to Monsanto ongoing responsibility to victims today. Monsanto was one of the largest producers of Agent Orange for the U.S. military. There was a class-action lawsuit against Monsanto for being liable in developing and producing the product however the lawsuit was dismissed in 2005. The ruling was that there was no legal basis for the plaintiffs' claims and that Agent Orange was not considered a poison under international law at the time of its use.

Founded in 2003 VAVA is a non-for-profit organisation that aims to raise awareness about the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War.
