Halifax aircraft rubber sheeting fragment: 466 Squadron RAAF
Description
Fragment of torn black rubber sheeting, with a close weave textile-like surface. The item has three x 2 mm diameter holes piercing the item in a straight row, and is covered with the remains of soil.
History / Summary
Wreckage from a Halifax bomber of RAAF 466 squadron, shot down on 22 June 1944, and recovered 60 years later. Another fragment of aluminium sheeting approximately the same dimension was recovered at the same time. The aircraft was piloted by Squadron Leader John Francis McMullan. He and his crew were killed.
