Studio portrait of 50338 Trooper (Tpr) Ralph Douglas McKnight, 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment (ALH) wearing a wallaby fur puggaree, which was only worn by members of that unit. An assayer from Bondi, NSW prior to enlistment, Tpr McKnight embarked for overseas service from Sydney on HMAT Wiltshire on 10 June 1918. Later transferring to the 12th ALH in Egypt, he was still serving there when the war ended. He subsequently developed astigmatism and returned to Australia on 20 July 1919 and was medically discharged.
