Studio portrait of 3598 Private (Pte) William Alfred Rowe, 21st Battalion. Pte Rowe was a grocer's assistant from Bendigo, Victoria, before he enlisted with the 16th Depot Battalion on 9 July 1915. From 3 December 1915 he trained with the 8th Reinforcements, 21st Battalion until transferring to the 9th Reinforcements, 21st Battalion on 21 January 1916, and then to the 60th Battalion from 26 February 1916. Pte Rowe was killed in action at France on 19 July 1916. He was 27 years old.
