Description
Portrait of 151 Private (Pte) Maximillian Samuel Horwitz (known as Maxwell Howitz) and his three sisters. Pte Horwitz embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) with the 15th Battalion on 22 December 1914. Pte Horwitz served at Gallipoli and was wounded in action on 4 May 1915. He was promoted on 20 May 1915 to Lance Corporal (L Cpl). After returning to the front L Cpl Horwitz was killed in action on 7 August 1915 and believed to be buried in an unmarked grave. He was 23 years old.
