Description

Cutaway helmet fitted with a forward mount for Night Vision Goggles and rear counterbalancing weights. A nylon webbing strap is looped between these two points to which is fitted a TAG infra-red strobe light. The helmet has a large fawn coloured Velcro patch fitted across the top of the crown, on this is attached a small black square piece of 'glint' tape. On the right hand side of the helmet is a brown, cloth Velcro identification patch 'OPOS NKA' (O Positive blood type/No Known Allergy) and a black and white call sign patch 'S23' (Sniper 2nd Team 3rd man). A black and white Australia flag patch is attached by Velcro to the helmet's left hand side.

History / Summary

This helmet was worn by a member of 1 Commando Regiment during overseas deployment to Afghanistan between November 2008 and February 2009 as part of Operation Slipper with Special Operations Task Group Task Force 66.
