Studio portrait of Staff Sergeant (S Sgt) Vincent Alexander Burns. A quantity surveyor from Ryde, NSW, Ssgt Burns embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Beltana (A72) with the 36th Battalion on 13 May 1916. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant on arrival in England and to Lieutenant (Lt) in March 1917. Lt Burns died of wounds in France on 11 June 1917, aged 25.
