Royal Naval Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal : Seaman A McCarthy, Royal Naval Reserve
Royal Naval Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. The recipient's number, name, rank and unit is impressed on the edge. Obverse: The bare headed bust of King George V in Admiral's uniform with the legend, 'GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:'. Reverse: A battleship with the motto 'DIUTERNE FIDELIS' (faithful for ever) at the foot. The medal is fitted with a swivelling straight bar suspender and a piece of 34 mm plain green ribbon.
Awarded to Seaman A McCarthy of the Royal Naval Reserve for 15 years service. This medal is part of a collection assembled by the late Hon. Sir Thomas Hughes, Member of the Legislative Council of New South Wales. It was presented to the Memorial in memory of his son, Captain Roger Forrest Hughes, Australian Army Medical Corps, who died of wounds in France on 11 December 1916 and his grandson, Flying Officer Peter Roger Forrest Hughes, 12 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, who was killed on active service while flying in the Northern Territory on 3 October 1942.
