Description
Informal portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Sydney Wentworth Addison, No. 2 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps (AFC). A journalist from Franklin, Tasmania prior to enlistment, Lt Addison embarked with A Flight from Melbourne on HMAT Ulysses on 25 October 1916. Later transferring to No. 69 Squadron with the rank of Captain, he was Mentioned in Despatches. Subsequently transferring to No. 1 Squadron he was promoted to Major and appointed an Officer of the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for conspicuous services rendered whilst serving with the AIF.
