Description
Composite photograph of images of crashed aircraft, labelled 'Per Ardua as Astra" which translates to "Through adversity to the stars" or "Through struggle to the stars". The motto dates from 1912 and was used by the newly formed Royal Flying Corps and the Australian Flying Corps. It later became the motto of the Royal Air Force and other Commonwealth air forces such as the RAAF, RCAF, and RNZAF. The word "Stickybacks" has been written on the bottom right corner. (This photograph is from the album of Captain James Brake, No. 2 Squadron, AFC. See P10814)
