Portrait of NGX44 Lieutenant (Lt) John Allen Grant, 2/9 Battalion. A patrol officer prior to enlistment, Lt Grant enlisted in New Guinea on 20 January 1940. Lt Grant served in the Middle East from March 1947 to February 1942. He was killed in action in Papua on 12 January 1943. He was 26 years old.
