Description

Members of Reconstruction Task Force 4 (RTF-4) at Camp Holland in the Multinational Base at Tarin Kot, 2008. Among them are infantrymen and Bushmasters from the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, and cavalrymen and ASLAVs from the 2/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry). In the centre, seven Dutch soldiers are seated upon a Panzerhaubitze 2000 (PzH 2000) from the Royal Netherlands Army. RTF-4 deployed to Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, in April 2008, and comprised 41 different units from the Australian Defence Force. Its mission was to conduct protected reconstruction operations in the remote areas of the province as part of a broader Dutch-led task force. Over the following six months, the mission developed health, education, and security infrastructure, including the construction of bridges at key river crossings throughout Uruzgan and neighbouring provinces. RTF-4 completed its mission and returned to Australia in October 2008.
