Studio portrait of NX37547 Gunner (Gnr) Alan Malcolm Fox, 18 Anti Tank Battery. An accountant in civilian life Gnr Fox enlisted on 30 June 1941. Whilst serving with Gull Force he was made prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese at Ambon. After the death of VX48124 Chaplain Charles Henry Patmore, attached to 2/21 Battalion, during an allied bombing raid of Ambon on 15 February 1943, Fox was one of several soldiers who used their experience and knowledge to conduct services at Ambon. Gnr Fox's father and two brothers were church ministers. Gnr Fox died of beri-beri on 10 June 1945 at Ambon, aged 25.
