Description

Chatelet, Belgium. 25 March 1919. Group portrait of the NCO's and men of the 9th Battalion, who won decorations during the war. All of the men have at least a Military Medal (MM) except the Warrant Officer, probably the unit's Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), fifth from left front row, who wears the ribbon of the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM)(possibly 1428 Staff Sergeant F Appleton MSM, or 271 Sergeant James Brodie MSM). At least one man, front row far left, wears the brass A for Anzac, worn on their unit colour patch by all men who had served at Gallipoli. No identification details were recorded for the men in this group.
