Description

Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) 105 mm gun emplacement. Note the square holes in the ground on either side of the gun, most likely used for crew shelter, and the sandbag fortifications in the background augmented with old shell casings filled with earth. These shell casings are 155 mm calibre, which suggests that this position was once occupied by American artillery. Soldiers of 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment camped at this ARVN fire support base prior to the commencement of operations in the Iron Triangle. The buildings behind the gun emplacement at left are living quarters for ARVN personnel and their families.
