Description
Joey the ventriliquist dummy, of which Lieutenant (Lt) Jack Norman Hugo Huges played a role in making whilst a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese at Changi. Lt Hughes, of the Malay Regiment, lost his right leg after being hit by a Japanese mortar in February 1942. He became one of only a handful of survivors of the massacre of patients and staff that occured at the Alexandra Military Hospital, Singapore, and subsequently spent four years as a POW in Changi POW camp. Joey is held in the National Collection of the Australian War Memorial.
