Collection related to the service of 413394 John Maxwell Knight RAAF
Identification portrait of 413386 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) George Stewart Hotchkis, of Thirroul, NSW. After enlisting on 17 August 1941, he completed his initial training and progressed to the Intermediate and Advanced Training Course 20 for pilots at No. 7 Service Flying Training School (7SFTS), RAAF Station Deniliquin, NSW, Australia held from 9 March 1942 to 25 June 1942. Later he embarked from Sydney for the United Kingdom where he transferred to the RAF. On 27 September 1943, while attached to No 149 Squadron RAF, Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Hotchkis was reported missing, in a Short Stirling MkIII bomber serial number EF495, during air operations over the North Sea, Atlantic Ocean. His body was not recovered and he is remembered with honour on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey, England, United Kingdom. Flt Sgt Hotchkis was 21 years of age.
