Description
Identification portrait of 413370 Aircraftman 2 (AC2) Colin Cortland Godley, of Shaw Avenue, Kingsford, NSW. A company secretary prior to enlisting on 17 August 1941, he completed his initial training at Bradfield Park, NSW and was later attached to the RAF. Flying Officer (FO) Godley, attached to 61 Squadron, RAF, took off from Syreston, England in a Lancaster JA 837 QR- with a crew of 9, for a mission over Hamburg, Germany. He died on 3 August 1943, when the Lancaster was shot down near Luneburg, Germany and crashed near Wohlenbuttel, Germany. He was 30 years of age. FO Godley is buried in the Becklingen War Cemetery, Luneburg, Germany.
